An independent guide to one village and its plateau
chamarel.org is a visitor guide and reference for Chamarel in south-west Mauritius: the Seven Coloured Earth, the waterfall, the rhumerie, the viewpoints of the Black River Gorges, what they cost, what is open today and how to build the day.
What this site is
One place to plan a visit to Chamarel properly. It tells you what each sight actually is, what it costs, when it opens, how the waterfall and the viewpoints behave with the weather, how to get up the hill and what to do with the rest of the day.
It is an independent publication. It is not the website of the geopark, the rhumerie, any other attraction, a tour operator or a government body.
How the guides are researched
Factual claims about prices, opening hours, access, geology, history and ecology are based on the attractions’ own published information, official and primary sources, published research, and every guide lists its sources at the bottom. Where sources disagree, the guides say so and give the range rather than a single invented figure. Prices and hours carry the date they were last checked.
The live page estimates the waterfall flow and the viewpoint visibility from modelled rainfall and cloud over the plateau. These are planning aids, never gauge readings, and they never replace the official forecast or your own judgement on the day.
Independence and money
Recommendations are never sold. Where a page links to a bookable experience or a place to stay, the link is labelled and it never changes the practical guidance. If a partnership would ever conflict with honest advice, the advice wins.
