From La Vallée des Couleurs to VALLÉ Advenature Park
La Vallée des Couleurs is the former name of VALLÉ Advenature Park, and the park now presents itself as VALLÉ Advenature Park, formerly La Vallée des Couleurs.
The old web address, lvdc.mu, redirects permanently to vallepark.com, and the old name lives on in maps and listings, so a search for either name leads to the same place. The park calls itself Mauritius’ only advenature park, its own blend of adventure and nature, and does not publish the date of the change of name.
The park’s history is thinly documented, and its own pages give none. The opening date on record is 4 July 1998, and the area is given as 450 acres, about 180 ha, in one listing and 450 hectares in another; the park itself publishes neither figure.
Where it is and how far it is from Chamarel
VALLÉ Advenature Park is at Chamouny in Savanne district, south of the Black River Gorges National Park between Bel Ombre and Souillac, 21.3 km by road from Chamarel.
The drive takes about 22 minutes, no bus route is published between the two, and the straight-line distance is 10.4 km. The park is on the B102, the road from La Marie through Le Pétrin to Chamouny, which runs south from the plateau, so it fits a day that also takes in Grand Bassin and the Plaine Champagne road.

What the 23-coloured earth is
The 23-coloured earth is an area of exposed volcanic soil at VALLÉ Advenature Park that the park describes as showing 23 hues of volcanic alchemy.
The number is the park’s own count, and there is no independent description of the site or of its colours. The Chamarel site is better documented. A peer-reviewed study published in 2010 describes its reddish, brown, grey and purple shades as the products of old basalt weathering into iron oxides. Neither seven nor 23 is a scientific count, so read both numbers as names rather than measurements.
The coloured earth is one stop among several. The park also has tortoises, deer, centuries-old native trees, a Japanese rock garden and its waterfalls.
The four waterfalls where you can swim
VALLÉ Advenature Park has four natural waterfalls where swimming is allowed, the Vacoas, Cheveux d’Ange, Chamouzé and Bois de Natte falls.
The park’s own pages promote the waterfalls without spelling out the swimming rules, so confirm at the entrance which pools are open that day, especially after heavy rain. The park’s restaurant, Le Chamouzé, sits beside one of the falls.
This is the clearest difference from Chamarel, where the Chamarel waterfall is seen from two viewpoints and going down to its base on your own is strictly prohibited by the geopark.
Ziplines, the Nepalese bridge and other activities
VALLÉ Advenature Park’s booking page lists ziplines, a Nepalese bridge, quad rides, a mountain luge kart and 4x4 tours as activities on top of the entry ticket, without showing their prices.
The Nepalese bridge is 350 m long and hangs 80 to 100 m above the ground. Marketing calls it the longest suspension bridge in the Indian Ocean; treat that as a slogan rather than a record. The bicycle zipline runs for 400 m at a height of 18 m. Quad rides last one or two hours on 450 cc or 625 cc machines, with departures at 10:30, 13:00 and 15:00, and the packages run from Light to Platinum, some with lunch or GoPro footage.

The 23 coloured earth and the 7 coloured earth compared
The 23-coloured earth at VALLÉ Advenature Park and the Seven Coloured Earth at Chamarel are two separate sites, with VALLÉ 21.3 km by road from Chamarel village, and they suit different days, the Chamarel geopark a short geology and waterfall stop and VALLÉ a longer day of swimming and paid activities.
Chamarel’s coloured earth is smaller than photographs suggest; the bare dunes cover about 7,500 m² and are seen from a fenced path, and the geopark’s value lies in combining them with the waterfall viewpoints and the tortoises on one ticket. VALLÉ is cheaper to enter, but ziplines and quad rides are paid on top, and it is the only one of the two where you can swim.
