Le Chamarel Restaurant, the Chamarel restaurant with the view
Le Chamarel Restaurant stands at La Crête on the main road above the south-west coast. Its current experiences page lists breakfast from 09:00 to 11:00, La Table Créole and à la carte lunch from 12:00 to 15:00, and Kas Poz Gourmande from 14:30 to 16:00. These published service times were checked on 30 October 2026.
Les Terres de Chamarel is a separate tasting lunch available on Thursdays and Saturdays from 12:00 to 14:30. Choose the service when reserving, since a breakfast, set lunch and afternoon pastry stop are different bookings. Use the restaurant’s current menu for prices.
Reserve on +230 483 4421 or through the official restaurant website. Mention dietary requirements when booking. The restaurant is separate from the roadside viewpoint; a visit to the viewpoint does not reserve a restaurant table.

L’Alchimiste at the Rhumerie de Chamarel
L’Alchimiste, the restaurant of the Rhumerie de Chamarel, serves lunch Monday to Saturday from 11:30 to 15:30 and dinner only by reservation, and the lunch price includes the distillery’s standard visit and tasting (as published in October 2026).
The restaurant seats 80 and cooks with produce from the estate, including heart of palm, venison and wild boar, with a list of wines from elsewhere. Lunch is à la carte on reservation, and the terrace serves tea with crêpes and pastries.
No prices are published for the restaurant, so ask when you book on +230 483 4980. Its published lunch service does not include Sunday.

Varangue sur Morne on the Plaine Champagne road
Varangue sur Morne is a restaurant on the Plaine Champagne road above Chamarel. We have not confirmed current opening hours from the restaurant itself, so check directly before making it a fixed stop.
The cooking is French and local, the site sits at about 500 m with views over the forests of the Black River Gorges National Park and the south-west coast, and parking is limited when the coaches stop there.
Call Varangue sur Morne on +230 483 6610 before driving up. The restaurant sits about 1.3 km short of the Black River Gorges viewpoint, which makes it a natural lunch stop on a day that continues across the plateau.
Small Creole tables in the village
Chamarel village has a few small Creole restaurants, and none of them publishes opening hours, prices or a website (checked on 29 October 2026).
Palais de Barbizon, also mapped as Restaurant le Barbizo about 100 m from the Sainte-Anne church, is a table d’hôte whose set menu and cook, Marie-Ange, were praised between 2012 and 2015. That is more than ten years ago, so treat it as background rather than a current verdict.
La Marmite de Chamarel and La vraie cuisine de Chamarel stand about 0.5 km south of the church, on the way to the geopark. La vraie cuisine answers on +230 483 4245, and both, like the Barbizo, cook local food. Without published hours, call ahead or look in on the way past, and aim for an early lunch.
Snacks in the geopark, and drinks at Ebony Forest
The coffee shop inside the Chamarel 7 Coloured Earth Geopark opens every day from 09:30 to 17:00 and sells snacks and light lunches such as sandwiches, baguettes and paninis, but it can only be reached with a geopark ticket, and picnics are not allowed in the geopark (as published in October 2026).
Ebony Forest, the reserve on the same 7 Coloured Earth Road, has no café or restaurant on its visitor pages. Its Sublime Sundowner, a jeep tour of 2 to 3 hours from 15:30 for at least two adults, includes up to six beers, six soft drinks and two cocktails per person with snacks such as gâteaux piments and samosas at Sublime Point, and costs Rs 4,550 per non-resident adult or Rs 3,850 per resident adult, booked in advance (checked on 29 October 2026).
Children aged 5 to 17 on the Sublime Sundowner pay Rs 2,530 as non-residents or Rs 2,090 as residents, and under-5s go free. From 1 November to 31 March, when the sun sets later, Ebony Forest takes requests for a later departure, and the reserve’s shop is closed by the time the tour ends.

Opening days at a glance, and eating in the evening
Most Chamarel restaurants with published hours serve lunch only, so the simplest plan is lunch on the hill and dinner on the coast or at your lodge.
For the evening, book L’Alchimiste or eat where you stay, because the lodges on the hill feed their own guests, as the where to stay page explains. On a Sunday, Le Chamarel Restaurant serves lunch as usual and Varangue sur Morne keeps its daily pattern, with no official hours published, while L’Alchimiste follows the distillery’s Monday to Saturday week.
Carry Mauritian rupees. Le Chamarel Restaurant and the geopark take rupees in cash or by card, except Diners Club, but not foreign cash, and no ATM is mapped in Chamarel village, the nearest being on the coast road at Case Noyale and La Gaulette.
